01The short answer
ANSWERA pip is the standard unit a currency price moves in. For most pairs it is the fourth decimal (0.0001); for pairs with the Japanese yen it is the second decimal (0.01). Your profit or loss is the number of pips times the value of one pip for your position size.
02Key points
- EUR/USD moving from 1.0850 to 1.0870 is a 20-pip move.
- USD/JPY moving from 150.20 to 150.50 is a 30-pip move.
- Pip value depends on your lot size.
